Saving Flattened PNG Lowers Resolution
hello everyone!
i'm in bit of pickle why saving "flattened png" file lowers resolution of file. when i'm working on png image, save png until end, when need flatten image , rid of fireworks traces in photoshop doesn't like, when save "flattened png."
here's example scenario: i'm editing png file that's 200 pixles/inch originally. add other images other files it, choose "don't resample" of them. after saving png, still says resolution 200 pixles/inch under modify/image size. however, when i'm done , flatten layers, save "flattened png," close file, reopen in either fireworks or photoshop, resolution lowered 198.984 pixles/inch. know close original resolution, keep original anyways. happens images edit save "flattened png." if save file not "flattened png" when i'm done, , instead save normal png after flattening layers, open in photoshop , save png again rid of fireworks data, original resolution preserved reason.
is bug in fireworks? if not, how prevent lowering resolution upon saving "flattened png" in fireworks? don't want open 2 programs save file, , prefer use fireworks when editing png files , making web/game graphics, because it's easier in fireworks photoshop.
thanks in advance can me out issue!
regards,

this question has come before, don't believe answers have been found. said, think it's bit of non-issue.
you seem have made observations. if perfect 200ppi priority you, i'd suggest using photoshop flatten pngs. sounds you're flattening them photoshop's benefit anyway, why not flatten each png needed?
but here other ideas:
- are pixel dimensions of file changing? me, more important question.
- have tried using image preview or export save out flattened png? it's long shot, perhaps there's difference.
- have tried flattening file contents within fireworks first—perhaps saving copy beforehand?
[note: re-read post, , sound you're doing this. sorry!]
the issue sounds rounding error on part of fireworks, or more specifically, on part of flatten png routine. (i wonder if specific dimension of file might play role in this.) again, i'd more concerned if pixel dimensions of file being altered. resolution doesn't typically play role in screen-based output, monitor dictates final output resolution or display size of graphic. in fact, you'll notice it's listed under "print size" within fireworks "image size" dialog, it's more of print concept. within fireworks, it's significant when resampling image.
