Maximum project length for Blu-Ray using H.264 and 5.1 Audio
greetings,
i tried post in thought appropriate area (ame) without success. perhaps should have posted here based on past experience forum helpful? not sure, basic question approximate maximum project size/length fit on blu-ray disc 5.1 audio using "new" h.264 codec @ high quality? of course assumes recommendation use new h.264 codec.
and also, if using new codec, , source hdv, , output blu-ray, should render using h.264 1400x1080i/60 (the source format- worked cs5 , mpeg2 , let tv change square pixels ), or 1 of blu-ray presets @ 1920x1080 (i or p?) , make ame make conversion?
the issue have rather large blu-ray project , trying determine whether 2 discs or 3 first cs6 project....
thanks,

here's problem question.
there many variables affect maximum allowable length provide coherent answer. depend on frame rate of program (24p need fewer bits 30i or 60p), resolution of program (1080 needs more bits 720), content of program (static scenes need fewer bits high motion), encoder use (x264 can better job @ fewer bits other encoders), encoding method used (cq vs constant bitrate vs variable bitrate), whether or not have single or dual-layer bds, level of quality find acceptable, etc.
there's no possible way can predict how content can fit on disk degree of accuracy. you'll have work, see how turns out, , make adjustments needed.
about thing can certainty h.264 give better quality @ same bitrate, or same quality @ lower bitrate, on traditional mpeg2. yes, use h.264.
