Soft proofing to sRGB not working as expected

i've gone through 3 customer reps via chat on this, , none of them had clue.

i discovered soft proofing capability in lightroom 4, , watched adobe video it. looked pretty cool. experimented soft-proofing printing epson artisan printer. i'd struggled little bit prints being dark, etc., able produce best prints i've ever had.

but started experiment soft proofing srgb. photo club takes photo submissions srgb, , show them on monitor during meetings. don't good. so, figured soft-proofing them first correct that.

so, i've got photo has lot of red in (a flower). soft proofing indicated pretty of reds out of gamut. tried reducing saturation, had go pretty desaturated (black , white) before lightroom said in gamut. experimented change hue, still no luck.

i deleted soft proof virtual copy, , exported original srgb. looked fine.

this seem make soft proofing srgb useless me (at least reds - seemed okay small number of other photos experimented didn't have red).

just wondering if else has had issues this, or if i'm doing incorrectly, etc.

thanks!

p.s. update...  last chat rep had me try seemed work better. photos stored in lightroom jpgs color space of rgb , color profile of prophoto rgb. if export photo jpg / srgb, re-import lightroom, , soft proofing again, works better. downside of two-step process makes bit unusable me.

> if i'm doing incorrectly,

you should not try bringing of colors gamut much. know videos see online show counterproductive in many cases. you'll desaturate or disagreeable hue shifts if trust out of gamut warnings have noticed. should turn on softproof , check whether image looks , colors don't shift much. if or lose essential detail, try correct using hsl tools or local desaturation. out of gamut warning more useful when proofing printer profile , might have colors display cannot show printer can print. srgb, not in experience.

that's silly answer rep gave you. happens when export srgb colors truncated hard(it uses relative coloremtric conversion) srgb profile, if there detail there wish preserve lost , won't able back. of course if soft proof srgb jpeg srgb, have easy time conforming srgb, since is! out of gamut warning might show on srgb jpegs without correction not correct - known bug or strangeness how lightroom handles these , tiny touches on sliders make them disappear. fooling , in fact better off not trying soft proof , exporting srgb , ignoring soft proofing.

p.s. monitor problems have noticed in photo club more issue of monitor not being calibrated , not using color managed application show images. if monitor calibrated , 1 , using color managed app show images should give correspondance in color between monitor , 1 regardless of color space choose images. might perhaps thing club. need calibrating monitors , use color managed apps display.
