Thread: 11.04: Keyboard layout switching/flapping constantly (different solutions tried)

every since switched 11.04 (gnome) on desktop pc 'de' keyboard layout not persistent in gnome session. whenever login layout changed 'us', , while in gnome session, layout flapping , i'm not sure triggers change global gnome (not single window).

what' i've done/tried far:

found several postings (1, 2) , tried lot of different solutions, none of these work me.

1. opened keyboard layout in gnome system settings moved "german" top of list , removed layout list (it keeps returning after reboot). set german language system wide default , unchecked "separate layout per window option".

2. set /etc/default/keyboard to:
code:
xkbmodel="pc105" xkblayout="de" xkbvariant="" xkboptions=""
3. opened gconf-editor both root , non privileged user, went /desktop/gnome/periphals/keyboard/kbd , set layouts de , model pc105.

4. logged out , in again , restarted system (so if 1 of these changes triggered reboot, didn't work).

settings

don't have xorg.conf, @ least no xorg.conf can find.

code:
$ xprop -root | grep xkb _xkb_rules_names_backup(string) = "evdev", "pc105", "us,de", ",", "" _xkb_rules_names(string) = "evdev", "pc105", "de", "", ""  $ gconftool-2 -r /desktop/gnome/peripherals/keyboard/kbd  model = pc105  options = [grp    grp:rwin_switch]  layouts = [de,us]
i'm not sure if "_backup" string indicates problem?

according lsusb keyboard is:
"046a:0023 cherry gmbh cymotion master linux keyboard"
shouldn't matter.

that's found in /var/log/xorg.log.0
code:
[  5246.020] (ii) xkb: reuse xkmfile /var/lib/xkb/server-808bba3d4c227bdb44c370226c34e44c5d69a4a9.xkm
any appreciated, annoying.
