Thread: Acer 5920G Hell

i have multiple issues acer 5920g , ubuntu 11.04.

hardware specs:

- core2duo t7100 1.8 ghz
- 2x2 gb ddr2
- sata drive 500 gb seagate
- 8600m gt

after 4 complete installations of 11.04, symptoms more or less same:
first message, right after install tells me system not meet hardware requirements run unity.

says it's ok. wrong here. page or message. confusing since both sources ubuntu.
anyway, unity not work on system nouveau 3d experimental driver.
nvidia proprietary driver, it's story.
works, not.
can reboot dozen of times or more without success, stuck (probably) on plymouth. drive rolls time , nothing. ctrl alt del works or laptop button on/off.
works. then, of course, thank god since have no idea why. gdm ok right rez (1280x800), see nvidia logo before gdm, unity works (well can perform). consoles ok, right size right font. problem never know when it's going work.
nvidia driver recommended current 270. we're in june , system date. far haven't seen nothing fixing , frankly not expect nothing fixing since have experience ubuntu distros.

did try few things caught here , there on forums, blogs etc. on previous install far nothing works.

suggestion, idea, whatever?

think it's quite sad doesn't work because install process quite nice, new font ubuntu seems real nice , clean , unity quite promising (but still in dev obviously).

got question ubuntu guys, why did release 11.04 new unity knowing works proprietary driver not control @ all? imho it's wasting nice piece of code , promising 'distro'.

p.s. btw have 'tried' twice install 11.04 on main puter based on gigabyte x58a ud3r, i7 950, sata 3 drive, gf 560 ti. installations went fine. no error message. no grub. game over. think it's ahci trouble not sure. can't change bios ahci settings anyway because if w7 ****** up. it's quite hard linux evangelist these days lol

i have same issues.

problem graphics card.

fix? there isn't one.
ubuntu devs busy pushing out new features nobody likes (hello unity) while lack support standard features.

don't think know every macbook sold few years ago has same graphics card , same issues. (nvidia geforce 8xxxm series)

it's sad see ubuntu go downhill fast.
if oneiric ocelot doesn't work graphics card, i'm saying goodbye ubuntu forever (which pretty sad i'm translator , part of local ubuntu community).
