Thread: Change Grub settings for set gfxmode=640x480


my server showed black screen on monitor because resolution out of range. fixed problem pressing 'e' @ grub menu , changed first line "set gfxmode=640x480"

need change in grub settings make permanent change?

if can use gui, expect grub customizer can this. click on link in signature line.

manual editing, make same change made grub prompt:
code:
gksu gedit /etc/default/grub or sudo nano /etc/default/grub
uncomment line , change value wish use:
grub_gfxmode="800x600"
once have saved change, run:
code:
sudo update-grub
tip: can see resolutions available during boot going grub prompt , typing "vbeinfo".
