i'm buying brand new desktop pc without operating system installed , plan on installing ubuntu myself sole os. current pc has windows xp , i've never used ubuntu before. i've read various instructions installing ubuntu , grateful these 2 questions:

(1) computer store have said hard disk "formatted". don't know means, there special instructions need give them when in order make sure ubuntu work afterwards? haven't told them os i'll using, assume windows.

in case makes difference, cpu amd phenom ii x4 955, memory 2x2gb pc10666 ddr3/1333mhz dual channel, motherboard asus m4a88td-m evo , hard disk 500gb sata-ii.

(2) when computer , switch on first time, how install ubuntu? open cd-drive, put ubuntu cd in , follow on-screen instructions?
