Thread: Slow 2D Graphics - IBM T60p - Ubuntu 10.10
i've ibm/lenovo t60p with:
- ati mobility firegl v5200 (using default open source radeon driver)
- 15" uxga display
- intel centrino duo processor (t2400)
- 2gb ram
outstanding laptop under linux. works wonderfully (verizon mobile broadband, dual-head, suspend/resume, wifi, bluetooth, special keys , thinklight, etc).
real problem terrible 2d performance in applications:
- vnc sessions (through vinagre , through other vnc clients)
- cadence virtuoso xl layout (an integrated circuit cad application)
- youtube (flash) videos
big ones me vnc , cadence, these tools use work. if dual-boot windows xp , use vnc speed fine. note youtube (flash) videos fine in xp well.
vnc slowness occurs regardless of vnc server i'm connected (windows, mac, linux) , bad (the screen 'paints', top bottom, in 2 seconds, when there large display change).
posts here seem concentrate on 3d performance, , in arena have no complaints. compiz works great , don't play 3d games on laptop.
hate booting windows xp work done
in advance.....
