Thread: Ubuntu black screen at login
i used livecd install ubuntu 11.04 x64 on hp desktop. i'm not sure need troubleshoot. has following specs:
hp pavilion media center m8539f pc
amd phenom x4 9550 qc processor
5gb ram, 750 gb hdd
came vista home prem, nothing left of except old restore partition, have left intact. had windows xp installed recently, that's erased. geforce 9300ge video card
anyway, want x64 can have access ram, among other things.
after installation livecd, come on, present me generic/safe/etc boot options, , when either safe or generic chosen, goes (active?) cursor few seconds before revving hd, screen going black, , then... nothing. no indication still powered @ except light on front.

i'm familiar support/troubleshooting windows side i've never had education, self or other kind, on linux systems.
ps think black screen occurs around login time, had set auto login more use remotely - lot of setup on new computer remotely, ie updates , things, , remove capability , restore login screen later.
tried reinstall once. same results.
hi jeffreylees. you'll see in signature link "bootinfo script". please boot ubuntu live cd, run script (all instructions given @ link), , post results.txt file here (either attachment, or inside [code] tags, can activated clicking # above reply box). give idea of problem in terms of booting, or whether boot issue (i know people have run similar issues due video card problems).
