Thread: Ubuntu boots directly but not in a VM

hello,
more of vmware problem ubuntu problem, hoping perhaps else running ubuntu has experienced and/or has insight.

have dual-boot system running win 7 , ubuntu 11.04 (both 64-bit). have installed vmware player in windows 7 , created virtual machine should use partition ubuntu installed on. when try run vm, "bios" screen goes , error message stating "a virtual cpu has entered shutdown state." have tried changing boot order boot cd-rom first , ubuntu cd in drive, vm boot cd , run. note run vmware player administrator should allowed access hardware directly.

have tried googling , searching vmware communities pretty find relative attempts install mac os x snow leopard.

appreciated. (note have coworker has done , have compared notes , nothing popping out different basic configuration standpoint. have different hardware talking dell latitude laptop (him) vs. lenovo x201 tablet (me), both pretty new)

help please. still looking way make work. thanks.
