"error_log" file in "administrator" directory - Joomla! Forum - community, help and support
i had installed joomla 3.0.1 on site, , noticed "error_log" file, not in "public_html", instead in "administrator". file contained following error:
the hosting support said it's coding error in file. 71st line in file this:
since then, have updated 3.0.2, not sure whether problem has disappeared because getting error file when editing parts of site, not sure which. deleted file, , didn't show while, when editing site, today have noticed again, deleted it, , updated 3.0.2. however, 3.0.1 3.0.2 update package doesn't contain file guess still error.

hope hosting environment meets technical requirements specified @ http://www.joomla.org/technical-requirements.html.
