Thread: How to speed up UBUNTU performance?

good afternoon,

have 2 or 3 questions woul appreciate adequate answers:

1. top model desktop has dual booting arrangement: win xp or
ubuntu.
when select second option, there's msg. box announcing
nothing found , produces grub booting list
, if select again ubuntu, starts loading. normal?
2. ubuntu performance very slow takes 2 or 3 or 4 clicks on icon start application. could
~be main reason poor behaviour? there thing can speed performance -- @ least half speed i'm used obtain windows?

3. installed several programs: 1 of them (freevo) did not
achieveed success instalation. cause?
further, installed kshut down , requested placed in
launcher tab. confirm installed icon does
not show anywhere. application find files not work in
or other seaerch try do.
on issues, please?

how did install dual boot? did make partitions , install them, or did install within running windows system using wubi?

note have xp mean laptop relatively old , of low specification, have effect on system speed, sounds if there more wrong that. please let know laptop spec have, ie cpu, ram, video card etc etc, , more may come you.
