Thread: Using Ubuntu as fileserver for Win7 PC's?
so in month or 2 im going building fileserver 3 or 4 hdd's in act htpc room in , general fileserver other pc's in house, serving video on ethernet , wireless.
other pc's (1 desktop , housemates laptop) both use win7 x64 im wondering how easy ubuntu work both of them simple file server. ive used ubuntu before on netbook until im not complete beginner ive never used this, wouldn't know start other not simple case of selecting folders want share , windows magically sees them.
first of all, feasible? how set ubuntu share files win 7 machine windows doesnt seem recognize ubuntu's existence default. beginner friendly guides huge help, im not fan of terminal long copy-pasting , fill in blanks can use ok.
hey! interested in exact same theory. know in past bit more complicated set new v11 ubuntu there simpler way. looking samba share. there should options within network settings believe. know server version supports samba share (simple file sharing windows clients) since seen description in "windows compatible" on ubuntu site. have not played ubuntu before read lot online. downloaded , loading tonight. thing unsure of if "server" version or both of them come samba built in. here link of regular "desktop" version of ubuntu saying 1 of features windows-compatibility.
