pen tool and masking in cs6.
in previous versions create custom (vector) mask using pen tool in 2 easy steps.
draw shape drag shape image wanted mask on. done.
this "feature" has been removed cs6 , extremely annoying. or has become lot more complicated achieve this?
i know can create clipping mask using shape layer requires visible layer in layers panel. having "roto'd" 50 elements in previous versions in same workspace gave me 50 layers (cleaning solid black shapelayers after). in cs6 gives me 100 layers.
i know can select shape selection , apply mask make mask solid. want able move tangents around etc. 100% non-destructively.
i work 100% non destructive , yes, psd's become large thats no biggie, computer can handle it. don't want rasterize.
if have cs5.5 or earlier versions, create shape , drag shape layer want mask, remove fill layer , you'll see mean. thats want able in cs6.
is 100% gone cs6?

you being affected almighty f**kup photoshop cs6 user interface designers.
with cs6, adobe try pretend shape layers wonderful new type of layer. reality old type fill layer vector mask , addition of stroke attribute. there numerous workflow disruptions caused "new shape layer" pretense.
here's how functionality accustomed...
the vm of shape layer displayed in layers panel when vm disabled. disable it, shift-click "shape path" thumbnail in properties panel. (you can record action of shift-clicking thumbnail create own disable vector mask command can run when properties panel closed.) revealed vm can dragged layer in layers panel.
--------
by way, can draw path , directly create vector mask regular pixel layer without making shape first. draw path pen tool or shape tool set "path" mode in options bar, cmd/ctrl-click add mask button @ bottom of layers panel when pixel layer targeted.
