Thread: Permissions and ownership
hi all,
i'm running across issue permissions in particular folder , hoping pointed in right direction.
ubuntu box media server, , have "tv" folder shared access htpc. have transmission set automatically download television episodes via rss, sorttv script moves them download folder appropriately-named folder in "tv" share , renames them correct episode number , name.
after of happens, software on htpc scans media folder on regular basis , downloads meta data new episodes finds. problem is, when sorttv creates folder (for new season instance) or moves file on file or folder locked , htpc cannot access it. say, can read files cannot create new files backdrop.jpg or episode descriptions.
have "sudo chmod -r 777" command running every hour in scheduled tasks , passing sudo password in plain text in command. seems horrible solution , bad idea in general, it's i've managed far.
there way set file or folder ever created in "tv" share read/write accessible no matter creates file?
if htpc runs specific user, add group sorttv uses better solution. not great solution, better current one.![]()
