Thread: Trouble with GRUB, and External Harddrive!

okay, situation seems unique in can not find anywhere. happened;

had ubuntu 10.04 installed on laptop. laptop's motherboard burned out, bought usb external enclosure harddrive. connected mother's laptop (with windows7 on it), , booted - led me somehow installing grub on mother's laptop. - if don't have external harddrive connected, error:
code:
error: no such device: a51d5241-e874-46a1-99b5-2fb9f8520279. grub rescue>
now problem: external harddrive ripped usb socket while using ubuntu, causing freeze, , me having reboot laptop. whenever choose ubuntu on grub menu, hangs @ black screen (i'm assuming data totally messed when unplugged during use).

mother's windows 7 went reinstalled, when "loads first time" gives error saying can not finish. assuming has grub.

tried using supergrubdisk via unetbootin - have no clue choose [most options give error]. can't go ubuntu @ all, , can't go windows @ all. tried using unetbootin ubuntu install on it, go livecd mode - not work [gives me errors].

can give me sort of help? appreciate it.

if can boot windows 7, can't further initial setup, have problems have nothing grub. fresh install of windows overwrite mbr removing grub. sounds like, may looking @ other problems.

if have ubuntu install on external drive, don't have make changes computer, other setting boot usb.
