Advice on Multiple Returns and Unanchored Frames
hello everyone--
i'm hoping guidance on how approach problem i'm facing. have been tasked updating series of documents totalling around 5,000 pages incorporate our new corporate fonts , colors. new fonts larger fonts used in documents. upon review of documents, heart fell saw how indd files built.
here lovely challenges:
- the original designers didn't anchor single image in of documents.
- they used text wrap; instead use carriage returns , baseline shifts create spacing wanted.
- some of documents have threaded stories run 60-70 frames long.
i hoping update paragraph styles , adjust layouts needed based on text flow. (these training manuals). nonetheless, can imagine, causes document messy quick, text flows other pages while associated graphics stay in original location.
due number of documents need update, sort of automated solution great. ideally, able anchor graphics text , remove extraneous returns when paragraph styles updated, can @ least maintain integrity of content work through other aspects of layout need update.
some ideas:
- is there maybe way see if there graphic in same general location multiple returns? maybe using calculation of offset properties on first , last return, , comparing bounds of graphics on page?
- i'm thinking of splitting stories , updating each page's styles separately, document contains lot of numbered lists. splitting stories mean i'd need figure out how keep of lists in right numbering scheme.
i'm not asking script me. (first of these may dumb ideas). rather, love advice on how go scripting (or if possible). if faced these challenges, how approach them?
thank in advance time , effort!
