Back end administrator's dropdown menu not appearing - Joomla! Forum - community, help and support


hi there

i noticed dropdown menu not showin @ all. might have deleted accidently when getting rid of modules. quick fix without reinstallation of joomla?

you can reinstall full package rectify omissions.

  1. backup
      in unfortunate event have not done so, backup site , database now.
  2. manual re-installation of joomla
    1. download joomla
    2. extract archive
      1. extract archive locally on pc using archive manager.
        • if on windows not use m$ own archive manager - download , install 7-zip.
        • do not use m$ explorer's copy and paste or move options move extracted files around either.
      2. delete installation/ directory !!important
    3. upload files host server
      1. using ftp client upload files host joomla_root/ directory (where joomla files , directories located).
        • again if on windows not use m$ own software - download , install either winscp or filezilla.
      2. ensure default transfer file type set binary in options/parameters of client.
      3. click upload
        • the files must overwrite in current joomla_root/ whilst maintaining same file hierarchy. !!important
    4. access joomla administrator backend
      • try access site once more.
        • if successful proceed completing update
        • if not successful report here precise details.
    5. completing update
      1. go extensions ⇒ extension manager ⇒ discover tab
        1. click discover
          • this show new extensions available
          • it show old, deprecated one's, particularly if site updated 1.6.x, have not been removed properly. aware.
        2. select new extensions only
        3. click install.
      2. go extensions ⇒ extension manager ⇒ database tab.
        • click fix
      3. go extensions ⇒ extension manager ⇒ discover tab
        • click purge cache
  3. site review
    now check site , backend , features both existing , new make sure working.
    • if checks completed successfully
    • create fresh of site , database.
    • if not report issues.
  4. backup
    • create fresh backup of site , database , keep safe have clean position return @ point.
    • remember always backup site before doing any updates, extension installations, or making changes corrupt site. if don't know outcome of actions might backup.
