Optimising for Retina?

hey guys!

 

i've been trying optimize site new retina macbooks, i'm unsure how whole retina thing works. i've read need double pixel-count on images -- mean have change standard 72dpi images web 144dpi? i've been playing around various dpi(s) in photoshop (going 300) , image sizes, seems images come out blurry :/ missing something?

 

also, muse allows use our own non-web fonts, rasterizes image upon export. there way adjust compression of these text bodies? they're coming out pixelated on new retina screens well; little frustrating!

 

and lastly, whole campaign optimize retina -- i've been reading css sprites , code detects device viewer has site open on, before loading 2x images, saving lot of loading time non-retina users. being non-coder (hence, muse), there straight-forward way emulate within muse? i've googled this, , if understand correctly involves several lines of code after every image. little difficult me have image-heavy site (portfolio).

all can offer answer issue text. first off seo recommend keep text text unless it's graphic. worth expense buy font want use typekit , apply font site befor publishing. won't able see font in muse, on published site. can use rasterized type while design, if helps you, , change type type before moving on these next steps.

 

log typekit, , find font want use. may have purchase it, follow promts font.

 

in muse site, make paragraph styles text in site using newly purchased fonts (ie, headline, subline, menubar, sidebar...ect.).

 

in typekit, apply same name used paragraph style "selector" (example: paragraph style titled "header", put .header in selector box).

 

next in typekit click "embed code" , copy java script dialogue box.

 

go directly muse , paste code master pages have corresponding paragraph styles. "html" apear @ top of page, , not see fonts change muse application. publish site, , check out, , should see dream fonts in brilliantly retina display! , words picked search engines. win win.
