Thread: Turning stereo input to 5.1 output
here problem:
have htpc hooked tv hdmi , sound going through hdmi, , bit works perfectly. tv has stereo output, have connected input on htpc. on same soundcard input goes, have 5.1 system hooked on output
there 2 ways can pc give sound both on tv , speakers, , each has it's flaws. 1 solution use pulse loopback module, , sound on 5 speakers, latency makes bad when sound on tv aswel.
other way of getting sound on both tv , pc, go alsamixer , raise volume on input. gives prefect sound, on 2 front speakers.
have tested , confirmed both hdmi , 5.1 sound work fine.
i'm running 9.10(karmic) alsa version 1.0.23.
have experience this, or know if it's still issue on lucid (or later)
had read post several times have done..
pc(hdmi-pcm) --> tv --> tv(2ch analogue out) --> pc(mic) --> pc(ana 5.1).
mad ingenious.
should 2ch stereo out of surround5.1 because have 2ch input.
mangle surround5.1 upmix, me bad idea.
imo best solution pc dual output using alsa.
should feed ht amp/avr directly digital s/pdif coax not analogue 5.1.
5.1 system refer analogue connected collection of 6 speakers ?
