Combine files stuck on checking for security settings?

adobe acrobat x pro 10.1.1 on mac os x 10.6.8

 

i've been trying combine 2 pdf files (scanned pdf using preview on mac) in adobe acrobat. however, keeps getting stuck on checking security settings long time (see screenshot below).

 

i checked security settings on each pdf file , both showing no security.

 

 

 

i opened original file using preview, open print window , saved pdf under different name , still can't combine files. there other way done? i've been searching on google , forum hours , found no solution problem.

you might want open them in acrobat , use preflight check consistency of pdfs. possibly save them new pdf names in acrobat. see if new files can combined. sounds structure issue, , maybe save resolve structure problem. have tried opening 1 , use insert pages option insert other document?
