Is Cacheing Premieres downfall?
after countless problems playback issues in premiere spent time looking might causing problem on system , seems way premiere handling cacheing messed up.
as example if load bunch of clips fcpx throw them in timeline , hit play watch raid can see steady read rate of around 50 mb/s. if add more layers read rate goes accordingly playback stays smooth because raid can deliver content @ around 500 mb/s.
in premiere pro cs6 it's different story, same process results in looks random access raid. premiere seems load footage kind of cache (ram buffer?) , call content in blocks , when required. on system results in random read sessions 300 mb/s followed few seconds of inactivity raid.
whenever playback suffers stutter or locks it's before 1 of these high speed reads leads me think premiere requesting data in advance of timeline needing it's arriving late keep playback fluid.
i can't thinkign simpler approach of streaming in data required works better.
mac pro 12 core / 48gb ram / ssd boot drive
sas based raid storage
i'm curious kind of footage you're using @ 50 mb/s.
