Thread: Cannot format USB flash drive

hello,

windows problem, hope can ask here. there many knowledgeable people here , maybe ubuntu has solution.

copying in win7 usb-stick got write protected!

in win 7 have tried following remove wp:
1. changing properties

2. change keys in regedit regedit (hkey_local_machine\system\currrentcontrolset\cont rol\ , select new -> key.
enter name storagedevicepolicies ... )

3. format in dos-prompt, win7 or linux

4. low level format 2 different pgms (llf , 1 apacer, apacer pgm did not find stick though)

5. diskpart (attributes disk clear readonly

6. linux: null device dd. chmod, rm -r *

7. total commander, gparted.

8. testdisk

it not possible remove write protect. cannot use stick.

in linux looks can read , write stick not format it. looks files written stick. @ next mount files not there. (i naturally use "safe removal".)

unmounting , trying format disk utility in ubuntu this:
error creating file system: helper exited exit code 1: error calling fsync(2) on /dev/sdc1: input/output error

in linux behavior strange me: rm -r * work on stick (led flashes) , files seem removed, reappear @ next mount. testdisk option erase mbr make led flash nothing happens.

must use stick under ubuntu , win too. seems have throw away , buy new ??? find computer problems interesting, if force me buy new hardware irritating. blame win 7 unknown reasons set wp on stick during normal copy stick.

thanks

ycc

edit:
have worked several hours on before writing here. more , more think flash drive has had hardware crash. tried putting xp system. diod flashed, neither xp nor lowlevelformatting programs identify it. consider buying new 1 unless solution appears.

i gave on , deleted personal data according to
rm -r --frodo *
whacked between 2 stones while reading spells on transcend. bought new one.
thread solved.
