Thread: Sound problems

it suggested me post problem here better chance of help, here go... i'm going detailed possible.

test driving ubuntu 11.04 wubi obtained ubuntu website. did not burn cd or usb because when tried told there wasn't enough room on blank cd had put in tray. had been able download last lts (which didn't use because wouldn't recognize internet connection , didn't have time mess it) no problems. downloaded straight hard drive.

restarted , booted ubuntu instead of win7 (64 bit btw). , recognized internet connection started use it. lot. firefox alone sold me on it, pretty much. first problem no flash little googling fixed. next banshee/rhythmbox not recognizing droid x music player. fixed on own. once music showed on rhythmbox , started play there no sound. 4 or 5 days ago. i've been pecking @ problem on own week. it's thing keeping me switching ubuntu. else , while i'm complete newb linux can see it's way more customizable , fun use win7.

i"m running computer 40" sony bravia monitor through hdmi cable, don't know if may factor. went through sticky sound problems here , can see ubuntu read sound card on system reason it's not being used. purged , reinstalled sound programs. downloaded ubuntu extras. thing didn't try finding card on alsa project website because can't tell name card has. said, i'm complete newb lol

below info got running commands suggested in sticky...

aplay -l
**** list of playback hardware devices ****
card 0: pch [hda intel pch], device 0: alc662 rev1 analog [alc662 rev1 analog]
subdevices: 1/1
subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 0: pch [hda intel pch], device 3: alc662 rev1 digital [alc662 rev1 digital]
subdevices: 1/1
subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 0: pch [hda intel pch], device 7: hdmi 0 [hdmi 0]
subdevices: 1/1
subdevice #0: subdevice #0

think here it's showing card there not being used, subdevices:1/1, subdevice #0: subdevice #0. i've seen other posts users paste , @ least 1 of subdevices read subdevice #1. when go system settings-sound , check available card, don't see way enable it. assume enabled card in system. tried alsa mixer suggestion , none of sliders muted. ran alsa mixer on terminal , saved settings. restarted , sliders remained turned up. don't think that's problem. guess.

lspci -v
think soundcard info...
00:1b.0 audio device: intel corporation 6 series chipset family high definition audio controller (rev 04)
subsystem: acer incorporated [ali] device 0492
flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, irq 45
memory @ fe520000 (64-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=16k]
capabilities: <access denied>
kernel driver in use: hda intel
kernel modules: snd-hda-intel

here i'm supposed able see name , find on alsa project website. did find hda intel link there got lost in jargon working kernel. apparently once find i'm supposed download driver somehow (i didn't see link that) , go on following command...

sudo modprobe snd-
...where snd- followed card's name.

i'm stuck. any of can give appreciated. trying figure stuff on own can fun i'd rather , on exploring ubuntu instead of being stuck sound. wanna stick ubuntu i'm enjoying other features here's hoping!

(for other newbs, run script on terminal...)

wget http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-info.sh -o alsa-info.sh && bash alsa-info.sh
particular alsa diagnostic link...

http://www.alsa-project.org/db/?f=42...3fcb6c2bed4900

i see 1 driver intel hd audio. must universal intel sound cards. anyways, called "snd-hda-intel" try that. sudo modprobe snd-hda-intel. but, don't think fix sound cuz noticed driver loaded. type in command "alsamixer -c0" in terminal , turn way up. tell me if sound then.
