Thread: VirtualBox guest OS (Windows XP) does not recognise USB

i have gone through these forums solve problem, no success.

have latest version of puel virtualbox (4.0.8 downloaded directly virtualbox website) guest extensions, running on ubuntu 10.04 64-bit. user member of vboxusers.

guest os windows xp sp3 updates (except .net framework 1.1 sp1, fails install reasons unknown). guest additions installed (i know because mouse integration , full-screen both work, , oracle guest additions icon shows in windows task bar).

in usb settings, have enabled usb controller , usb 2.0 (ehci) controller, , added filter accept usb device.

  1. i start guest machine (windows xp).
  2. i select (tick) usb device -- simple usb stick formatted fat32 -- devices menu.
  3. the usb stick automatically unmounts ubuntu.
  4. however, windows not see usb stick; not show expected "installing new device" pop-up windows new usb devices; not show on list of drives.
  5. if untick usb stick devices menu, automatically remounts in ubuntu.

have tried 2 different sticks in case 1 of sticks @ fault, same results. know @ least 1 of sticks works windows, because use transfer files windows xp computer.

stumped how solve this. please help.

thank you.

i've asked this question on askubuntu. hope can give me solution.
