Total newbie looking for some direction - Joomla! Forum - community, help and support
alright, first, i'll apologize questions. 
i've looked through lots of tutorials, watched lots of videos, got joomla installed (also installed yootheme , widgetkit on recommendation site) , have started add content, i'm running issues , i'm not sure how solve them, or start.
basically, have client newsletter want put joomla because current method of making updates takes 50 hours/week , proposed joomla because seems perfect fit.
i've got pretty start on formatting individual articles, i'm not sure how set home page match existing home page (it has close existing design).
here example of current site looks like, want new site like.
what files go change home page layout , have input on tools, code, etc. might helpful @ make work?? specifically, 2 different slideshow links. current site has featured banner articles (in top slideshow rotates automatically), thumbnail articles (in second slideshow, user controlled scroll through) , other articles in scrolling text box on right. there 2 featured "leader" articles on bottom of page.

there several image slide shows extensions can use slideshow(s) commercial other free checkout:

look 1 fit needs.
good chances download module these rotators, add them site, download module, install via extensions manager; on module manager add new module , select type of module download. have assign position. how roatator goes first , other. positions given template, view positions available template can either view source code directly on index.php file of template or on joomla admin, under template manager, under templates tab, template , click previsualize , see positions on template. can create new positions on editing template, @ code, copy/paste/rename/reposition existing position.
(i hope not confusing)
for leading articles, go menu manager , on default option (it have star) on presentation options can set how many articles want show, set if want show intro image, number of columns , other options. intro image have set on each article.
