Way off? Newbie looking for some input. - Joomla! Forum - community, help and support

i've got client using sharepoint create/manage company newsletter , they've figured out it's not right solution. basically, it's pretty basic site links articles , admin section manage articles post, users can see articles, article formatting/layout, etc.

they want estimate (rough ballpark) on might take re-build site using "right" tool. recommended joomla (even though i've never used it) because seems best solution.

so, looking input.
1) joomla "best" tool handle sort of thing? know there's acajoom extension, but, since don't send whole newsletter via email, might not necessary.
2) i'm pretty php/mysql coder, have lots of web experience, html, css, wp, etc. so, in coming rough numbers, built in time learn system, close time estimate:
set joomla on company server (assuming can server configured php/mysql) - 4 hours
install , configure components - 8 hours
implement html , css templates - 20 hours (only 1 'main' presentation template , 4 different article templates)
build newsletter forms, delivery rules, admin, etc. - 65 hours

...and hours built in testing, troubleshooting, etc. i'm trying estimate high since i'm not sure needed. i'm going set 'practice' joomla instance on own site tonight try out, go through basic steps, through configuration options, etc. wondering if there obvious line items missing or if looks time estimates way off...

thanks!!

you're asking question in joomla forums whether joomla best. going yes. say, personally, i've found joomla can accomplish need website wise. after having built several html sites myself, along wp sites (blech...). joomla first choice anymore.

setting joomla should take less 15 minutes (after have uploaded core package). that's assuming of course, server set correctly. there lots of hosts out there have environments great joomla. inmotionhosting.com.

install , configure components more or less right. i'd err on side of less. if building 4 different templates, 20 hour estimate right.

i'm not sure on newsletter forms bit... i'd suggest installing acymailing extension. think shave off time, , make life easier client.
