InDesign --> Illustrator, For a Web Design Workflow
i know can't team has grappled problem, here goes:
i work company graphic design department , web development team; part of latter. our graphics team works on macs using indesign cs5.5 , designs come in pdf 1.5 (acrobat 6). development team uses cs5.5 on windows. designers output print (we lot of direct mail), geared that; develop our web layouts, how come our problem...
when open graphics' pdf in illustrator, isolate say, background, text has exploded 100+ layers making difficult track down assets need website. 1 line of text stroke around letters , drop-shadow behind might this:
layer 1
<group>
t
s
e
b
he
t (the best, displays on 1 line)
<group>
<clipping path>
<path> (stroke)
<compound path> (stroke again, not sure why 1 different)
.....
..... (more below)
.....
..... (and eventually...)
.....
<group> (drop-shadow group)
see how unruly layers are?
is indesign issue, say, how they've set file? or illustrator problem, interpreting how it's exported? we've done lot of web research past couple of days; we're still scratching our heads, trying isolate problem, , improve current workflow. tried exporting eps (level 3) , encountered same myriad-layers problem.
i really, hope we're not ones problem , out there has seen , beat it. sure appreciated!

your problem workflow. shouldn't ever open pdf files editing in illustrator unless absolutely necessary. exploded layers problem encountering way pdf format is—as format not intended edited.
your workflow needs modified both teams using either indesign or illustrator, not both. pdfs, should used final documents, or proofs, never transport production files.
