Thread: Dual monitors (and graphic related issues on 11.04)

hi there,

installed ubuntu 11.04 in dual-boot environment couldn't virtualbox ubuntu vm see attached usb devices.

dual-boot working fine. however, have question regarding graphics , ati graphics card. have hp probook 6560b, ati radeon hd 6400m graphics card. @ first boot, ubuntu asked me if wanted install proprietary drivers graphics card, did.

questions:
  1. the performance in ubuntu unity decrased after installing proprietary drivers. noticable when dragging windows, in fade effects, etc. confirmed deactivating proprieraty driver, , smooth again. however, these basic drivers had other problems, graphics artifacts , no dual-monitor support. know causes performance decrease? perhaps setting can change somewhere?
  2. using proprietary drivers, went ati catalyst control center configure dual screens. want work did in windows, whenever plug external screen in, want external display primary display , laptop display turn off. in ati control center there's not way set primary screen?
  3. using ati control center, have reboot after changing setting related dual monitors. why this? can avoid somehow? takes ages experiment...
  4. if try using ubuntu "monitors" configuration tool instead, strange graphics artifacts (like unity desktop showing in wrong resolution on secondary screen). there bugs in configuration utility? perhaps can't use when using proprietary drivers?
  5. currently have configured ati control center have multiple displays, , used "monitor" tool disable laptop screen. however, when unplug external screen, doesn't turn on laptop screen (which problem, of course ). anyway fix this?
  6. having laptop screen disabled, want close lid (when using external display). have, in power options, set action closing lid "blank screen". when close lid, external screen turns black. why this?

    sorry lengthy post, wanted questions out there @ once.

After Effect warning: A problem occurred when processing OpenGL commands

i have after effects cs6 in computer cs5.5 installed. 64bit windows 7 ultimate 20gb memory , 2 amd radeon hd 6900 series display adapters drivers updated hour ago (driver date 27.7.2012, version 8.982.0.0).   when trying use after ecffects, error message " after effect warning: problem occurred when processing opengl commands " when clicking composition window.   what done? not much, i'm afraid. need older graphics driver. other disable second card or play configuration. unfortunately not smart person decided cs6 no longer need manual opengl control user, there's no way suppress within program force-revert software-only modes in case of such issues...   mylenium More discussions in After Effects adobe
