Thread: Last shot before uninstalling for good

i've had ubuntu installed in dual boot environment (separate hd) win xp since ubuntu 6.x lts. i've wanted switch ubuntu xp years, peripheral support wasn't there until 9.x lts (i think was). when ubuntu upgraded 10.04, nics stopped working while tweaking settings (something i've done) & never worked after that. left ubuntu last year & hadn't been back.

d/l'd 11.04 kubuntu & decided try on ubuntu, installed incompatible video driver (last night). had 11.04 ubuntu & installed on kubuntu, installed incompatible video driver. in forums read suggestion poster go 10.04 lts & since had cd, didn't have lose @ point (i see canonical charges cds. bummer!). seemed install ok (didn't have time check out everything, though).

other versions, put xp @ bottom of boot menu (if didn't delete entirely, 1 upgrade did) & i'd been able edit menu.lst rearrange boot order. however, there doesn't appear menu.lst anymore. seems have been replaced config.grub, if i'm correct & i'm unable save edits using sudo.

understand need security. i've been in long time & have security certs. must losing geekiness in "old age" don't have desire jump through these hoops anymore make changes. i'm frustrated @ point & if can't boot order rearranged, i'm going uninstall ubuntu & call day. m$ wins (pun intended).

can give me help? thnx in advance.
