i've been searching , hope there simple fix. have pc resides in small bldg. @ base of radio tower in central america. receives stream main studio, broadcasts through our tower via stream, on occasion lose stream (foul weather, etc.) times fail reconnect, have used various players, vlc, rhythmbox, mplayer.

possible have cron script check stream, if true, carry on , if false, reconnect stream? if pointers or directions?

just clarity, issue isn't cron, rather how determine feed has failed.

cron way of executing jobs @ specified intervals.

instance, if had bash script able check health of 'stream' cron configured run script @ specified intervals.

i'm guessing (wildly, based on weather reference) feed via wireless tcp/ip connection. netstat way of examining network connection status; might pay run @ regular intervals see if able find useful diagnostic. given that, script created re-start applications.
