Thread: Video graphics issue on guest OS
well first, i've got vb installed , got guest os on (thanks varunendra!)
- i'm having trouble graphics.
video showing 16 colors , 640x480 resolution , doesn't give option change either one. course makes graphics icky. i've searched , down answer , i'm finding lot of outdated stuff.
tried xorg.conf file opens blank, saw because it's not needed anymore.
tried 2&3d acceleration.
vb-4.0.8 - guest additions installed
ubuntu 11.04 host.
guest-winme base memory-512mb video memory-64mb.
*intel graphics media accelerator 4500m
, second, installed ubuntu 11.04 guest os , it's using 1366x768 , fine that, except says hardware doesn't support unity , changes me classic. wanted unity test desktop animations etc. without crashing real desktop i've done several times already.
know how can fix these things?
thanks!
umm.. think i'm 1 got worthless trouble (i swear didn't know @ time !!..)
after reading post , googling realized vbox has limited support older win2000, no guest additions older versions (check out contents > supported guest os). might have tried installing guest additions, must have failed error message perhaps didn't notice.
here possible workaround may try if wish: http://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=9918
i'd suggest switch vmware player if need support winme (i still couldn't figure out why need such old os??). in fact vmware products supposed better in regarding support , performance, however, they're heavier on resources compared virtualbox. it's free ('player' , 'server', while 'workstation' paid), needs register (which free too).
remember download binary file (.bundle), not .rpm version meant redhat , derivatives.
in order avoid installing me on again in vm player, 'export' current vm in virtualbox 'ova' appliance, import 'ova' file in vm player. i've no idea how supported in vm player, option there , may save lot of time.
unity issue, it's small trick described here: http://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=40893
