all pages except front page hang - Joomla! Forum - community, help and support

just been asked @ odd problem

a linux hosted website, appears running joomla 1.5.26, php version 5.1.6, apache 2.2.3

i didn't build it, , don't know config other that.

it used work fine.

however, time (last couple of weeks @ least, not sure if has been longer), except front page no longer works. attempt go page , server doesn't respond, times out completely. doesn't return blank response, , if turn php errors on, don't error, hangs.

worse, can't admin panel, because gives same error, doesn't respond @ all.

i tried adding line in index.php set server request name /, , shows front page, think means mod_rewrite , .htaccess right.

it can @ database, front page fine.

i tried bunging in exit(0) , echo statements php find out hangs, , appears if exit before jfactory::getsession, doesn't hang, whereas if let run statement, does. debugging jfactory::getsession seems hang somewhere in
jfactory::_createsession (line 507)
$session = jsession::getinstance($handler, $options);
weird thing is, tried putting exit first line of jsession::getinstance , still hangs rather returns blank page.

any ideas causing this, , how fix it?

has sites database grown recently? lot more concurrent users? have extensions been installed recently? changed config settings?

how many http requests? size of http requests? average # of extensions being loaded per page?
