the site installed 2 years ago , wasn't touched (edited / modified) since. last week became unavailable, throwing error message 'content encoding error' in ff while chrome displays html code (attached).

the server administrator discovered attack , advised delete 3 particular files:

/modules/mod_zetta/zetta.php: trojan.php-43 found
/modules/mod_joooms/joooms.php: trojan.php-43 found
/templates/brussai/version.php: php.shell-38 found

as did not help, surfed joomla site , tried update 1.5.23, joomla expected (in extensions - install section) xml file upload package not included

as did not know how way, uploaded files manually via ftp after having backuped site. site still unavailable.

please find attached code generated in chrome.

so please advise if should fixed first, or if instant upgrade / migration joomla 3 recommended.

upgrading joomla 1.5.22 1.5.23 straight forward click update.. last update of joomla version 1.5.26 stable , can used it.

always backup before upgrading.
