Preview List Does Not Appear through VPN

this issue , worked on couple of weeks turned out have simple cause , easy solution, thought might others post experience here.

 

environment:  dreamweaver cs3 running on decent laptop sits in docking station @ work 2 monitors , sits in lap laptop when working home on cisco anyconnect vpn connection.  trying work home first time, not case of working before , breaking--this issue there along.  rights laptop far less admin.  using strong wireless connection @ home reliable cable isp.

 

symptoms:  dw works fine @ office, when take laptop home , connect via vpn, synchronize behavior different.  whenever synchronize/get or synchronize/put on file or folder knew had been changed team-mate, preview window not show expected, listing files changed.  team-mate did not have issue when working home.  interestingly, when did sync/get or sync/put on folder or file knew had not changed, behavior normal , i'd see usual pop-up saying there no changes sync, , asking if want see list sync manually.

 

troubleshooting:  did kinds of troubleshooting it, including rebuilding adobe profile (renaming various adobe folders in file system , in windows registry automatically rebuilt program), comparing dw settings of team-mate had no such problems working home, pinging server , that, adding ftp , http servers hosts file, bypassing wifi router @ home , plugging straight cable modem, running dw admin, , chasing down error messages in event log.  dw configuration mentioned firewall port 21, tried adding router, hoping "opening" port.  nothing seemed change behavior of preview list not showing when expected.

 

cause:  had epiphany turned out right.  problem have 2 monitors @ work, , @ home use laptop screen.  nothing going wrong.  if last had preview list window on secondary screen @ work, not appear on laptop screen @ home.  , because preview list window not task bar button, couldn't tell "appearing" in nonexistent secondary screen.  when file activity process going, progress indicator have task bar button, if "appears" on nonexistent screen, can right-click task bar button, select move, , use arrow keys walk window visible space.

 

so apparently main dw window has code tells appear on lone screen if last used on secondary screen unavailable, because launches in visible space.  file activity window not have code, because has task bar button can around issue , manually move visible area.  preview list has neither task bar button nor code keeps showing on nonexistent screen.  i'd qualifies bug, , perhaps it's not issue in versions of dw newer cs3.

 

solution:  @ work, before shutting down day, make sure dw-related windows dragged on primary screen, , positions remembered next time run dw.  when using laptop itself, appear in visible space.

you can create 2 different, well, workspace layouts palettes , panels them. switch , forth when have both monitors or laptop. i'm pretty sure remembers pops too. test pretty though.
