Thread: Acer Aspire 4253 / eMachines D644

hi,

have laptop (d644 variant) , needs particularly on sound, usb , lock screen. can't find thread specific model created one.

amd e-350 based laptop. have installed 10.10 64bit on it. have updated it.

-graphics works after installing drivers ati website
-wifi (bcm43225 variant) works after installing proprietary broadcom drivers
-ethernet (atheros communications device [1969:1083]) not work. driver atheros not compile. followed readme, i'm not expert on there might workaround on this. seldom use ethernet can leave now.
-sound works jack sensing not work. sound both speaker , headphones.
-card reader works.

need for.
lock screen:
when lock screen , close lid open it, display not come , after typing in password , hitting power button, not shutdown (power button set shutdown when pressed). have press power button continuously force shutdown it.

if lock screen , move mouse such password prompt appear close , open lid, display come up.

tried looking in logs have no idea for.

sound:
jack sensing not work. sound comes speaker , headphones. tried workaround acer aod522 did not work me or have done wrong.

usb:
stops working randomly.

kernel 3.+ solved jack sensing problems.
installed 11.10 did not ui installed 10.10 , installed kernel 3.+ broadcom drivers won't compile 3.+ kernel. i'm looking @ distro has kernel 3.+ , doesn't use gnome 3/unity.
