Thread: How do I clone a dual boot hard drive
i have 160gb hhd running ubuntu 11.04 , windows xp, following partition configuration:
sda1 windows ntfs (primary-active , boot , system)
sda5 linux swap (logical)
sda6 linux ubuntu ext3 (root)
sda7 linux ubuntu ext3 (home)
sda2 other
have grub2 installed, provides me choice @ boot start either ubuntu or xp. works fine.
want clone hhd , transfer new, larger hhd, , have several questions, since don't want make mistake crtical.
1) software considered safest, reliable , easiest use (dd, gddrescue, clonezilla, paragon, macrum reflect, easeus, drive image xml, or else)?
2) software able copy , include both operating systems in partitions cloned?
3) software change booting process or options in cloned copy in way? i've read using easeus corrupts grub2 , requires re-installing grub2!
there other concerns, considerations or factors need consider in cloning hhd; e.g. prior formatting external hhd, , file system? i've read fat32 choice, don't know sure.
thanks.
