Thread: Move from Evolution to Thunderbird

just changed evolution thunderbird 3.1.10. , wanted share steps taken.
platform: ubuntu 11.04 64-bit, desktop.

step 1.
  • backup evolution: alt-f, backup evolution settings...
  • install thunderbird ubuntu sotware center , setup thunderbird mail account information. close thunderbird, after checking whether sending , receiving works.

step 2.
open evolution , move sub-folders (dragging them) highest level. before going next step make sure no sub-folders exist more. close evolution.

step 3.
  • open nautilus.
  • assure in /home/yourname folder.
  • press control-h, see hidden folders , files below own folders, example: .aptitude
  • move /home/yourname/.local/share/evolution/mail/local/inbox.sbd
  • press f3. opens panel in nautilus.
  • in panel goto /home/yourname/thunderbird/xxxxxxx.default/mail/servername

servername can find in thunderbird account settings (alt-e, a), go server settings. here see servername.

step 4.
copy "mailbox file" files evolution "inbox.sbd" folder thunderbird "servername" folder. do not copy other files xxx.cmeta, xxx.ibec.index, xxx.ibex.index.data etc.

that's all.

open thunderbird , should find evolution mail in folders. dragging folders can recreate evolution subfolder structure.

hope

thanks providing useful info , helped me move on thunderbird
