Thread: No Root file system error and GPart program showing Blank HDD


hi guys, new ubuntu , saw version on net 11.04 , decided try out.

ok let me tell u in short what did before got problem installation.

1..i have 80 gigs drive, divided 4 partitions.
2..i decided try ubuntu on g drive had 3gigs free using wubi. worked , installed succesfully. worked good, decided make separate partition ubuntu system.
3.. uninstalled ubuntu first partiotion master resized g drive(18gb) 12 gb , 6 gb(for ubuntu)
4.. tried installing uding wubi again, there's catch now, getting 2 main problems.

1 prob: if try installing using dvd , select option try , install, error : no root file system defined.

checked on forum , saw need define root file drive "/", cant, since image

2 prob : decided partition drive using gpart in ubuntu, problem get..

hdd of 80gb, , partiotioned using partition master data

inserting "sudo fdisk -l" command result




in can briefed hdd showing unwanted space "free space 19gb"

know ubuntu community known response questions

i suspect easus partition master has put illegal entry in partition table. commonest cause of gparted showing "unallocated" when there partitions present extended partition end boundary beyond end of physical drive - impossibility. unfortunately cannot see whether so, because have run fdisk -l option gives partition start , end figures in cylinders. need sector figures. run fdisk ubuntu terminal again time run:

please post output between [code] , [/code] tags clarity, not screenshot. can highlight terminal output mouse , right-click -> copy copy clipboard before pasting post.

if theory correct, fixed.
