Thread: 11.04 problems compiling CERN root X11lib.a not found

hello,
have downloaded cern root package onto lenovo s10-2 netbook runnning ubuntu 11.04. having problems trying run configure command.

download libx11-dev package, configure command complained not find libx11.a library. can see under /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libx11.a (i had run updatedb command have appear result of locate libx11.a).

thought maybe need make soft-link /usr/lib , sure enough configure succeeded. but, plain weird on acer travelmate can run configure , works fine libx11.a under /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu directory.

know why should case?

there path need set (i'm not sure 1 should be)?

have noticed other strange errors when trying install python s/w installs fine on acer not on lenovo try investigate , post about.

many , hope have peaceful weekend.

i tried on acer aspire 1 , found same error. used svn checkout grab latest root directories running ./configure fails find libx11 library, though it's installed (actually libx11-6 or something). weirdly don't see '.a' file in directory mention, '.so' libraries think fine.

if post on 'root talk' forums might quicker useful response. i'll see if can solve myself , post solution here. if figure out first post answer?
