Thread: hide folders or files without adding period "." to rename file or folder

hi everyone,

trying hide folders in ubuntu linux hidden in windows through file/folder attributes (attrib -h)

not option me rename folder let's "ancient texts directory" ".ancient texts directory" because programs associated these files , shortcuts not work in windows. make folder hidden not renaming folder. hard ask?

there no other way of making folder or file hidden in linux in windows applying attributes? don't want rename putting dot in front of it. renaming file putting dot in front of name changes position folder appears in list view. people may ridiculous, me few hundred files , folders , subfolders, organisation important, aside aforementioned reasons.

need maintain compatibility between 2 operating systems' basic folder structure must use both operating systems.

if understand correctly, can this:
create file in folder in want hide given file. call file .hidden. in .hidden put name of file want hide. when view folder nautilus, not show hidden files (you might have refresh once add .hidden file).
make sense? want?

i have after effects cs6 in computer cs5.5 installed. 64bit windows 7 ultimate 20gb memory , 2 amd radeon hd 6900 series display adapters drivers updated hour ago (driver date 27.7.2012, version 8.982.0.0).   when trying use after ecffects, error message " after effect warning: problem occurred when processing opengl commands " when clicking composition window.   what done? not much, i'm afraid. need older graphics driver. other disable second card or play configuration. unfortunately not smart person decided cs6 no longer need manual opengl control user, there's no way suppress within program force-revert software-only modes in case of such issues...   mylenium More discussions in After Effects adobe
