Thread: Restore
here's rub...
have laptop bum cd-drive won't boot usb key. running 10.10 quite nicely me (installed before drive went bad) when upgraded 11.04 on internet lot of stuff broke. no wifi, screen resolution, etc. should have anticipated this. anyway.. have usb drive , can make "bootable" drive out of it. there anyway recovery console (available grub) or otherwise wipe machine , fresh install if can't boot directy anything? ugh. help?
if usb drive usb hard drive laptop can (it should) boot, it's quite easy make fresh install of earlier working version. since said "can make bootable drive out of it", assume have access working computer.
- make fat32 partition of size 700mb or more on usb (hard)drive,
- make (only fat partition) live bootable usb key. caution: make sure choose fat partition when installing live system on it, or else whole drive may reformatted.
- boot laptop , proceed installation.
- when step install grub occurs during installation, make sure laptop's internal drive selected destination, not usb drive. (however if mistake happens, can corrected later, need unnecessary efforts)
hope goes easy.
