Thread: Ubuntu grub rescue live cd problem

i have pentium 4 desktop running on windows 7. last week installed ubuntu along windows. (booted ubuntu dvd , installed. both operating systems working fine. yesterday booted windows , while watching youtube mozilla firefox pc got hanged. waited 15minutes respond. pressed restart button. restarted instead of showing boot menu, directly showed windows logo , ” windows starting message”. waited half hour load. didn’t boot. restarted pc several times same thing happened.


tried windows recovery disk. can boot dvd shows splash screen loading 1 hour. there no change.


tried install windows again installation stuck @ windows starting screen.


restarted without dvd in drive. says :
“veryfying dmi pool data……….
bootfrom cd:
error: file not found.
grub rescue>”


tried boot free usb partition manager parted magic.com
loads files , says :
“[136.263910] panic occurred, switching text console”


read ubuntu forums problem , boot live cd. typed sudo fdisk –l in terminal. there see lot of linux partitions. don’t know next. a picture attached.

there 3 partitions.
hard disk not dead. don’t know problem is. hdd seagate 500gb. (st3500418as). have lot of music files , photos in it. recover it. if there no other way im ready format hdd. please help. how can bring normal state.

if can boot ubuntu cd, please following can see going on:

boot ubuntu live cd/usb. choose option "try ubuntu without changes." once desktop loads come here , following:

1. download boot info script in zipped file. there link in signature.
2. once downloaded, move boot info script either copying or dragging , dropping zipped folder onto desktop , unzip contents using right-click extract here.
3. open folder , copy script desktop (you can drag , drop if like)
4. open terminal , run following command

sudo bash ~/desktop/boot_info_script.sh
this create results.txt file on desktop. paste entire contents of file here in new post. once pasted highlight text , click # sign on toolbar place code tags around text.

i have after effects cs6 in computer cs5.5 installed. 64bit windows 7 ultimate 20gb memory , 2 amd radeon hd 6900 series display adapters drivers updated hour ago (driver date 27.7.2012, version 8.982.0.0).   when trying use after ecffects, error message " after effect warning: problem occurred when processing opengl commands " when clicking composition window.   what done? not much, i'm afraid. need older graphics driver. other disable second card or play configuration. unfortunately not smart person decided cs6 no longer need manual opengl control user, there's no way suppress within program force-revert software-only modes in case of such issues...   mylenium More discussions in After Effects adobe
