Migrating from Localhost to hosted site - Joomla! Forum - community, help and support

i have joomla site working enough structural standpoint locally convinced use tool run , manage site moving forward.

my site biking site 60-80 trail reviews. have 1 done each category ensure menuing working. have been doing on local machine.

i have 14 hour trip seoul week, gives me 28 hours of time work on converting content old site new site (my hoster 1&1 windows site, getting linux server, fresh setup).

based on this, can either:

1. start converting content , go through export/import process. have never been database expert, can follow steps, challenging if has bumps along way.

2. convert site conent, build out site scratch on new server. manual cut/paste of text content, copy images structure over. guarantee no db problems take more time.

3. sit on plane, drink vodka tonics , watch movies on ipad , deal next week.

based on level (good @ asp, never worked php) , not being db admin, if in shoes?

[mod note: moved general forum instalation forum; ]
to you, in future, find correct forum topic please read which forum post question have put together.

it not 100% clear whether current site joomla site or not?
whether talking migrating joomla 1.5 2.5?
whether migrating asp / html site joomla?
moving developed site local remote only?
or else in between ;)

if moving completed site new linux host on 1&1 download , install akeeba backup extension , follow extensive documentation on use.
this becoming 1 of essential joomla extensions sites: http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions ... ackup/1606
read extensive documentation on-line @ akeeba backup or download copy of same.;

check following compatibility tables appropriate version of akeeba use installation. details, see: https://www.akeebabackup.com/compatibility.html

to move site local 1&1 linux need create database - provide host, username , password - before using akeeba kickstart script install site onto new location. these details needed during process itself.

what suggest do, whatever attempting, create subdirectory new site , move joomla files that.
use 1&1 domain manager point domain name directory.
i have found cleaner way of doing things on 1&1 tools there use.

if not match intentions let know.
