Thread: chmod doesn't work
hi!
i'm having problems chmodding ntfs directory. i'm having problems accessing directory through samba because of missing permissions, when try set them, nothing happens.
do:
(i have highlighted lines of relevance)code:root@proliant:/media# ls -l total 32 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 6 jun 20 14:47 cdrom -> cdrom0 drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 jun 20 14:47 cdrom0 drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 jun 20 14:47 cdrom1 drwx------ 1 danni admins 4096 jun 18 03:29 hdd.1 drwx------ 1 danni danni 20480 jun 20 15:28 pvt root@proliant:/media# chmod -v 770 hdd.1 mode of `hdd.1' changed 0770 (rwxrwx---) root@proliant:/media# ls -l total 32 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 6 jun 20 14:47 cdrom -> cdrom0 drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 jun 20 14:47 cdrom0 drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 jun 20 14:47 cdrom1 drwx------ 1 danni admins 4096 jun 18 03:29 hdd.1 drwx------ 1 danni danni 20480 jun 20 15:28 pvt
tried replace 'hdd.1' '/media/hdd.1' , 'hdd.1/'
ideas or gratefully appreciated!
there 2 possibilities:
1) more likely, have mount options wrong, think permissions there set @ mount time, possibly in 1 of masks. anyways, first place i'd mount options.
2) less likely, going wrong in strange alternate universe ntfs linux permissions conversions. site has bit of information on front: http://b.andre.pagesperso-orange.fr/permissions.html
