Thread: Upgrading from unsupported release (8.10 to 9.04)
i have "a friend" panp4. never upgraded , running 8.10. i'm willing to side-step upgrades current, or @ least 10.04 lts. when try upgrade, message:
"failed extract
extracting upgrade failed. there may problem network or server."
temporary problem? because upgrading 9.04 no longer available? there solution? upgrading live version? or fresh install of 10.04 lts way out?
i go fresh install of 10.04 lts, long-term release until 2013. 2 release mention not supported anymore. might able 8.10 involve lot of faffing about. , 'might'.
clean install , done it. make backup, naturally, of valuable data, , perhaps include separate /home partition in new install valuable data separate / os partition in future (you may using separate /home, of course).
(ps: if did progressive upgrades 8.10 need plenty of time on hands or super-fast internet connection. not quick. clean install waaaay quicker.)
