Thread: NO sound. Intel, Realtek, ubuntu 10.4

i new linux problem. have no sound. have been on these forums , haven't been able find solution.

funny thing is, brother has same laptops , both used same disk install ubuntu 10.4. same! yet has sound , not.

1 thing did differently install linux , windows side-by-side. not quite ready drop windows. have had not been 1 problem.

believe reinstalling ubuntu might help. feel should remove ubuntu first don't want format entire hard drive. doubt work because tried running live cd. if wants try , ears.

found nothing muted. under sound preferences output set internal audio analog stereo. option. that's can think of might helpful.

told me open terminal. typed in said. opened text file. @ end of file added line. no 1 noticed don't have exact same codec. mine around 863 think. solution 887. tried anyways , worked fine. heard static through speakers when muted typed alsamixer terminal , muted microphone , fixed it. sound works perfectly. should heard static ear phones because cd volume in alsamixer turned way up. works great. these forums of great help. had find myself.
