i have been keen user of ubuntu since version 7.something. in time have updated, upgraded, or done clean installs of each new versions 2 months after release enable small bugs iron out.

there have been minor issues rectified via forum. 11.04 release worst have ever come across forcing me winblows.

gripe. -- 7 hours downloading , upgrading -- obtain system nothing -- nada. zip. booted came desktop , nothing, unity doesn't respond, no applications open, , shutdown didn't work.

-- downloaded iso morning did clean install , eagerly went new system.

first issue -- logitech cordless keyboard not working, never had issue before. plug in usb one, using now. go 'system settings' (took me while find had gone) couldn't find in keyboard section allow me configure cordless keyboard. failure 1

open banshee , ask load music library. does, click file play , --- no sound! choose track in case , banshee crashes, , icon disappears unity bar.

usual have nvidea graphics card 1 of first things install proprietary driver. never had issue before. time loaded (apparently) , restart enable it, , when in there no top bar, unity bar sits there , won't slide in , out, , no applications respond. big failure 3

re boot recovery mode , opt safe graphics mode.

system re boots - top bar appears, unity remains inoperative, , when click shutdown icon system settings --- crash , burn system shuts down.-- big failure 4

re boot recovery mode (again) run "fix broken packages" dpkg runs while replacing , upgrading hundreds of packages. when finished reboot -- same issue desktop stuffed!

working off live cd. appreciated if possible.

developers -- maybe pushing ahead now. sort of overall failure lose more users gain. don't complain title says me natty unmitigated disaster.

can't begin wonder needs repair or work

that's terrible. it's unfortunate.

stick 10.04 or 10.10 , problems fixed in 11.10. try different distribution, alternatively. linux mint close relative of ubuntu, debian (although latter less user friendly). fedora provides different experience, opensuse.

1 of strengths of having many distributions choose can switched between problems direction of 1 distribution can circumvented relatively easily.
