What's the difference between exporting and printing to file?

hi, i'm using lr4.1 on osx 10.6.8. convert nefs dngs @ import, edits in lr.

 

most of time when want create output it's screen use. use "export" , produce jpgs.

 

but when i'm preparing files printing @ lab, use print module, , print file, because create jpg image size smaller paper size, framing purposes. example, use print module output jpg "cell size" 11x14 "custom file dimensions" 12x18, have lab use 12x18 paper, leaving me white border on print makes easier mat , frame.

 

two questions, really.

 

1. lr differently creates jpg, depending on whether use export or "print file"? i'm assuming not, wondering.

 

2. there way want -- create jpg picture 1 size paper size larger -- through export dialogue (like ideally, through export preset) or indeed have go through print module this?

 

no emergency here, method working me. (though using export preset i'm doing, rather having go through print module, little quicker, suppose.)

 

i'm idly curious this.
