Corrupted SQL user table - Joomla! Forum - community, help and support

after unsuccessfully trying log site yesterday, both on front end , admin end, use host cpanel , found usernames in database user table had been changed admin , passwords had been set same md5 value.
all other tables in database appear ok
my homer moment (doh!) didn't have backup of database.
i had been using site without problems 3 hours before.
the thing had done try , install akeeba backup update
has come across problem before or suggest has caused it

no, that's strange. have access though right? if not can provide instructions using mysql how change password know log in.
is legal distribution of akeeba author? if not, might issue if has malicious sql or php.
